Visa

Authors who require an invitation letter (for your Visa process), please send an email mentioning your full name as it is on the passport, passport number, address, and the accepted paper title and paper number to mercon@uom.lk.

If you intend to visit Sri Lanka as a tourist, you may apply for tourist visa using the online visa application available at www.eta.gov.lk/slvisa.

The type of visa applicable for conferences is Business visit visa. Please fill the online form, if you intend to apply for business visa. Your details will be sent to visa applying country’s Sri Lankan mission through the Ministry of External Affairs, Sri Lanka. Please complete the form by April 20, 2018.

Accommodation

Majority of the hotels close to the University of Moratuwa is located in Mount Lavinia (~10 Km from conference venue). Several reliable hotels can be also found close to Moratuwa (2-3 Km from conference venue).

Transportation

Conference will be held in University of Moratuwa. The Closest airport is the Bandaranaike International Airport (CMB). The University of Moratuwa is located ~50km from the airport. You can use airport shuttle service or public transportation to research the conference location. Taxis are available righty outside the departure terminal or you may call one of the following cab services:

Local Information

Currency

While credit cards are widely accepted in commercial establishments in Sri Lanka, several places rely on cash transactions in local currency (Sri Lankan Rupee, LKR), especially if the purchase value is not very high and for taxies. We suggest that you carry widely acceptaed currencies such as USD, Euro, GBP, or JPY and exchange to Sri Lankan currency (LKR) at the currency exchange agencies at the airport, upon arrival. Please check the conversion rate before you travel, e.g., at Bank of Ceylon website.

Time and Weather

Sri Lanka Standard Time (SLST) is 5.5 hours ahead of the Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) and is 13.5 hours ahead of the U.S. Pacific Standard Time (PST).

As the monsoon winds start blowing from the Indian Ocean and Bay of Bengal, they bring rain to the south and west corners of the island and also into the hill country. Despite this, plenty of sunshine punctuates the short, sharp showers, especially during the first half of the month. In May, the weather is tropical with temperatures averaging about 29° Celsius (~84° Fahrenheit) during day time. During nigh temperature drops by a several degrees to ~26° Celsius.
